Prime Minister Oli ready to give affiliation to B&C Medical College

Kathmandu: The government is preparing to affiliate B&C Medical College in Jhapa, run by businessman Durga Prasai. At a meeting of the Medical Education Commission in Baluwatar on Friday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that the medical colleges should be given affiliation.

One of the participants in the meeting said that the medical colleges should be given legal demands as per the wishes of the Prime Minister.

Chairman of the Private Medical Association Basruddin Ansari said that the Prime Minister should be associated with the medical college as Nepal should be made prosperous in the health sector.

Minister for Health and Population Sher Bahadur Tamang said that all citizens of Nepal should have easy access to medical education.

Ansari said that Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha was of the view that people from Nepal should go abroad to study medical education every year. He said that Shrestha was of the view that the general public could easily study in Nepal even if an environment was created for teaching medical education. Minister Shrestha had said that last year alone, about one thousand Nepali students went abroad to study medical education.

According to Dr. Bhagwan Koirala, Chairman of the Medical Council, another participant in the meeting has given mixed reaction. He said that it was not possible to say that a concrete decision was taken at the meeting. ‘The minutes are yet to come, the decision of the meeting will be made public tomorrow and everyone will know,’ said Dr. Koirala says.
